7 Benefits of Martial Arts for Kids

There are so many sports and after school activites available to kids. When deciding on the right sport or activity for your children there are a few important things to consider like whether your child will enjoy the activity or sport, cost involved and the benefits to your child. The benefits of martial arts include:

Moving their bodies
One of the biggest benefits of martial arts is the physical component. Getting our children moving and active can be a challenge but being involved in martial arts allows children to work on not only their cardiovascular fitness but also flexibility, coordination and strength.

Learning life saving skills in a safe environment
Children will learn self defense and skills that can save their lives. These skills are taught in a safe environment which allows children to practice what they are taught. In the current world these skills are absolutely priceless.

Build Self Esteem and Confidence
Learning new skills also allows children to build confidence and self esteem. Even though it is an individual sport children will still use team work during classes and build wonderful friendships along the way. During gradings and tournaments, children will perform kata in front of others which will help children build on their confidence.

Goal setting & Self improvement
Students will work through their syllabus in order to receive their new belt or ranking. This teaches reward for their hard work, practice and mastering new skills. Knowing that they need to work hard and learn new skills to earn their next belt, teaches goal setting and motivation.

Conflict Resolution
Martial arts isn't just about fighting. It's about teaching the skills required for defense and then using those skills only when necessary. Children are taught about non-violent conflict resolution and how to work through situations that can escalate without using physical violence.

Learning Respect and Listening Skills
Showing respect towards instructors is an important part of martial arts. Children will learn how to focus, show respect and listening skills in order for them to be successful in their martial arts journey.

Belonging
Being part of a martial arts club means that children and their familties will always have a supportive tribe around them. Once you find the right martial arts club for you, you will feel at home and that yourself and your children will always have the support they need throughout karate and life.
